Egypt's Salah crowned player of the year in Switzerland Egypt's Mohamed Salah scoops another award in Switzerland, a day after he completed a high-profile move to English Premier League side Chelsea
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah was on Monday named as the 2013 best player in Switzerland, receiving a perfect sendoff as he waves goodbye to Basel FC. The 21-year-old completed what he dubbed a dream move to English Premier League side Chelsea on Sunday after excelling during a one-and-a-half year stint with Basel. “I will pick up the prize of Mohamed personally. I had to make the whole evening photos and send them via WhatsApp,” said Basel chairman Bernhard Heusler, referring to the absence of Salah who is currently in Spain. Salah played a key role in helping Basel win a fourth consecutive league title last season. He also steered them to a place in the Europa League semis. The former Arab Contractors prodigy was also voted as the “most popular player” by Swiss fans. He was named as the Swiss league best player for the 2012-13 season last month. Salah has scored 20 goals in 79 appearances with Basel in all competitions since joining from Egypt's Contractors in the summer of 2012.
