The Abu Dhabi Film Festival's SANAD Fund, which helps Arab filmmakers with development or post-production costs for feature films and documentaries, is now accepting submissions for $500,000 in grants The Abu Dhabi Film Festival (ADFF) has announced the first call for applications for its SANAD Fund, an annual prize of $500,000 to be distributed among Arab filmmakers. Established in 2010, the fund has since given nearly $2 million in grants to help feature films and documentaries with development or post-production costs. The idea is to build stronger networks within the region's film industry, according to the ADFF's website. In order to apply, directors or producers must be nationals of the following countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, UAE and Yemen. Projects or applicants from other countries may be considered if their proposed films directly deal with Arab culture or heritage. Those applying for help with development costs can receive up to $20,000, while those for the post-production category can get up to $60,000. The fund's second call for project submissions will run from 1 June until 15 July. Both emerging and established emerging filmmakers are encouraged to apply.
