Liverpool to formally bid for Egypt's Salah: English reports Liverpool are reportedly ready to make an £8 million offer to Basel for Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been given the green light to make a formal bid for Basel star Mohamed Salah, The Daily Mirror newspaper reported. Following talks between Rodgers and Liverpool's owners, the Reds will now present an £8million offer to the Swiss side – who have placed a £14million price tag on the Egypt ace's head. Liverpool, however, will be hopeful that Salah's desire to play for a big European club will coax Basel into allowing him to move to Anfield. But according to the Daily Mail, who said last month that Liverpool were preparing a £14million bid for Salah, Basel's asking price is not the only sticking point as the English side are also likely to face competition from Spanish and German clubs for the 21-year-old's services. Even so, Rodgers is reportedly confident that Salah's destination will be Liverpool should a fee be agreed. Salah produced some dazzling displays for Basel this season, most notably, scoring twice against Chelsea to help his side seal two shock wins against the Europa League holders in the UEFA Champions League. He also bagged other three goals en route to the Champions League group stage and has netted four times in the Swiss league. England's winter transfer window closes on 31 January.
