PROGRAMME: 2nd Luxor Egyptian and European Film Fest kicks off
Published in Ahram Online on 20 - 01 - 2014

Opening with director Amr Salam's latest film 'La Moakhza', the second edition of the Luxor Egyptian and European Film Festival, 19-25 Jan, focuses on independent Egyptian and German cinema
The second Luxor Egyptian and European Festival kicked off on Sunday 19 January with director Amr Salama's latest filmLa Moakhza (Excuse My French).
The second edition of the festival boasts a diverse line-up of 62 films from 20 different countries, including Egypt.
The feature film competition comprises 12 titles, including La Moakhza, while the short film competition includes 23 films.
Within the focus of this year's edition on new (post-reunification) German cinema, eight contemporary German films will be screened, including famous titles like Run Lola Run (1998), Goodbye, Lenin! (2003) and The Lives of Others (2004).
Several Egyptian films that were shot digitally will also be screened, as part of the festival's policy of supporting independent cinema and highlighting its significance. Such films include Yousry Nasrallah's Al Madina (The City, 1999), Mohamed Khan's Klephty (2004) and Ahmed Abdalla's Farsh w Ghata (Rags and Tatters, 2013).
The festival, which was originally set to take place in September but was postponed on account of the unstable political situation, is organised by Noon Foundation for Culture and Art, and sponsored by the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Tourism, Luxor Governorate and the European Commission in Cairo.
The festival runs until Saturday 25 January.
