Interior minister pressed to uncover infiltrators: Source
Mohamed Ibrahim has been put under pressure to uncover ministry breach after recent terrorist violence
Published in Ahram Online on 22 - 11 - 2013

Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim has been put under pressure to speed up investigations into security breaches in his ministry after the assassination of a high level security official this week.
A high-ranking government source told Al-Ahram's Arabic website that the government was putting pressure on Ibrahim after Mohamed Mabrouk, an officer in charge of investigating espionage charges against ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, was shot dead near his home this week.
Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, a jihadist group inspired by Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack.
The recent announcement that the police have discovered "assassination lists" with addresses of intelligence officers who are responsible for the crackdown on Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood and their allies after his ouster, have raised concerns that the ministry has been infiltrated.
Ibrahim was ordered to move quickly and promised the resources and support needed for the task, the source added. He was reportedly given a deadline of January to uncover the leak.
Police officers and personnel have been targeted and many killed, along with military personnel, by armed groups after the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July and the deadly dispersal of a large pro-Morsi protest in August, where hundreds of protesters were killed by police.
An assassination attempt on Ibrahim was carried out in September but failed when a car bomb exploded near his convoy. Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis claimed responsibility for the attack.
