Egypt police investigate terror attack tip targeting youth ministry
Alleged Muslim Brotherhood defector warns Giza police of planned bombing by current member of group, police say
Published in Ahram Online on 13 - 09 - 2013

Giza's police detectives are investigating a claim that a Muslim Brotherhood member is planning to bomb the youth ministry's headquarters, Al-Ahram's Arabic news site reported.
According to the report, the Giza security directorate received a phone call from a man purporting to be a Muslim Brotherhood defector, saying that a member of the group will attack the ministry's building.
The caller said that the possible culprit – referred to by his initials AG – is an employee at the Directorate of Youth and Sport in Fayoum, south west of Cairo.
Egypt has witnessed several recent bombings following the 3 July ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, who hails from the Muslim Brotherhood.
The latest was an assassination attempt on 5 September against Egypt's interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim, when a bomb detonated near his daily convoy in Cairo's Nasr City. Ibrahim survived the bombing unscathed, and Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis –a jihadist group based in Egypt's Sinai – has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In July, at least two bombings at police stations outside Cairo were reported. An explosion in the Nile Delta's Mansoura left one dead.
Numerous police stations across the country were also attacked in the immediate aftermath of the bloody crackdown against the two pro-Morsi sit-ins at Rabaa Al-Adawiya and Nahda Square. Video footage that went viral on social media networks showed an attack on a police station in Giza's Kerdsa which left at least 9 policemen dead.
The Muslim Brotherhood and the National Coalition in Support of Legitimacy – the Islamist alliance supporting Morsi – have repeatedly stressed their intention to remain peaceful. The coalition has condemned the attack on Ibrahim's convoy, which resulted in one death.
