BCFE launches hotline to report domestic violence 'Speak Out...Do Not Hold Back' provides cancer patients, Egypt women chance to report domestic violence abuse
To celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, The Breast Cancer Foundation in Egypt (BCFE) has launched a hotline number to receive domestic violence complaints. The new service, entitled 'Speak Out...Do Not Hold Back,' targets cancer patients mistreated by husbands or family members. The hot line receives complaints and offers guidance. BCFE's chairman Dr Mohamed Shaalan stresses that counseling is central to the foundation's mission. Unfortunately, many women are subject to violence – be it verbal, physical, or psychological – from their family or surrounding community, making outreach more difficult. The reoccurrence of such incidents was what prompted the new service. The 'Speak Out...Do Not Hold Back' hotline number is 19417. BCFE urges women to call starting from 21 November, between 9am and 3pm. The service is open daily except Fridays and Saturdays. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/87166.aspx
