Zamalek striker, Ahmed Hossam Mido, threatens to retire if his Cairo-based club fails to win the title race of the domestic league in Egypt this season.
The Egyptian international was heavily criticised for having put on some weight since returning to his boyhood club last January, as well as for the huge price tag on his deal.
“All people know Mido. For those who criticise me, you must know that to date I have not received any of the money that is due to me and that my only reaction will be on the pitch,” the 28-year old told a TV programme on Friday.
Despite an unsuccessful six month loan spell at Zamalek last season, the experienced player opted to return to end his career in Egypt after surprisingly terminating his contract with Dutch giants, Ajax Amsterdam.
“I came here from a big European club [Ajax Amsterdam]. If we fail to win the Egyptian league title this season, I will retire.”
“You can asses my performance when the Egyptian league resumes on 15 April,” he added.
The former Middleborough, Tottenham, Roma and Marseille striker signed a 3 and half year contract with Zamalek and his lucrative undisclosed salary is a matter that recently has caused a lot of debate.
“I am [already] the highest earning footballer in Egyptian football history. I am not searching for money so I am not interested to speak about my salary,” the nomadic striker explained.
“I evaluate myself every minute in the pitch. If haven't proved my worth, I would not be a footballer for such a long time,” he concluded.
Zamalek are on the top of the Egyptian Premier League table with 32 points, six ahead of arch-rivals Ahly.
