Ahly happy to qualify for Champions League final Ahly players are happy to be in the CAF Champions League Final following Egypt's defeat against Ghana, confident they can win the title
After beating Cameroon's Coton Sport 7-6 on penalties and reaching the CAF Champions League final, Ahly players believe they will perform well and snatch the title. The match went to penalties following a 2-2 aggregate draw in the Red Sea resort of El-Gouna on Sunday. Ahly midfielder Ahmed Fathi said reaching the CAF Champions final is a great achievement, especially considering the difficult circumstances players faced before the game. Ahly's hard-fought win came only a few days after Egypt were humiliated 6-1 by Ghana in the first-leg of the World Cup qualifying playoffs. "The short time between the Ghana clash and Coton Sport game affected the players' performance," Fathi was quoted as saying on Ahly's official website. Ahly will face Orlando Pirates of South Africa in the CAF Champions League final. The first-leg will take place on 2 November in Johannesburg and the return-leg will be played in Egypt seven days later. "We will do our best to appear on good form during the tournament final," Fathi added. The Cairo giants' defender Sherif Abdel-Fadil believes the CAF Champions League final against Orlando won't be easy, as the team are very organised. However, he promised to do his best throughout the game. "We are working hard to win the first-leg in Johannesburg to ease our mission in Egypt in the second game," Abdel-Fadil said. Ahly, who are eyeing a record extending eighth Champions League title, will feature in their 10th final in the African elite club competition. They will face a stern test against Orlando Pirates, who beat Tunisia's Esperance on the away goal rule following a 1-1 aggregate draw on Saturday.
