South African defender warns of Abou-Treika threat
South African defender advises his national team to be cautious when dealing with Egypt's Abou-Treika in Saturday's hotly-anticipated clash
Published in Ahram Online on 22 - 03 - 2011

SuperSport United defender Thabo September highlighted the threat Mohamed Abou-Treika could pose when South Africa host Egypt in a crucial African Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.
September, who played against Abou-Treika in Ahly's 2-0 victory over SuperSport in the African Champions League last week, said he is aware of the classy playmaker's capabilities.
"He doesn't run but kill you with his passes. When he receives the ball he already knows where to make the next pass," September, who is not a member of South Africa's squad, said in an interview with KickOff.com.
Abou-Treika played a key role in leading Egypt to two Nations Cup triumphs in 2006 and 2008, and steered Cairo giants Ahly to a host of local and continental trophies during the past seven years.
He was criticized late last year for some sluggish displays but he still maintained the killer instinct which helped him to reach the 100-goal milestone in the Egyptian Premier League.
"He doesn't stay much on the ball, does one touch or two and then passes it on. He was playing as winger, but most of the time drifted inside the field to support the strikers," September added.
Gedo Threat
September also believes that his club teammate Morgan Gould, who was called up to South Africa's squad for the Egypt clash, knows how to deal with the Pharaohs' forward Mohamed 'Gedo' Nagy.
Gould came face-to-face with Gedo during Ahly's victory over SuperSport.
"Morgan was the reason why Gedo had to go out and seek medical attention after a clash of heads," September said.
"The injury was not intentionally caused, but Gould was hard at the back and won most of the battles with Ahly's strike force, even though we ended up losing 2-0.
"I believe the experience gained in Egypt will help him deal with the Egyptian national team players as they play almost the same type of football."
Gedo was Egypt's hero during their 2010 Nations Cup triumph, scoring five goals despite starting all as a substitute, and finishing as the tournament's top scorer.
Egypt need to beat South Africa away from home to boost their chances of avoiding missing out on a tournament they won a record seven times.
The Bafana Bafana top Group G with four points from two games, three ahead of Egypt which sits in last place.
