Two policemen injured in drive-by shooting in Port Said Unknown assailants on motorcycle open fire at Al-Sharq police station in Suez Canal city of Port Said on Monday night
Two policemen were injured in a drive-by shooting in Port Said late on Monday, state news agency MENA reported. Unknown assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at Al-Sharq police station. Both victims were transferred to the Port Said military hospital and are in a stable condition. Security forces are conducting investigations to identify the perpetrators. On Friday, one civilian was killed and a policeman injured in a drive-by shooting at a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Cairo. Egypt has been gripped by deep unrest since the army overthrew Islamist president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July amid mass protests against his rule. Armed attacks on security units have been occurring regularly across the country since then, particularly in strategic areas with a heavy police and military presence, such as the Suez Canal cities and North Sinai. On 12 September, Egypt's interim government imposed a two-month extension of the state of emergency that was originally introduced for a month on 14 August. A night-to-morning curfew is also imposed in 14 governorates nationwide. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/82352.aspx
