Egypt's red-hot winger Mohamed Salah was named as the best player after steering Swiss underdogs Basel a stunning 2-1 victory at Chelsea in their European Champions League Group E opener on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old took his tally to four goals in Europe's elite club competition this season after scoring against Chelsea again, having been on target in last season's Europa League semi-final at Stamford Bridge.
Brazilian playmaker Oscar put Chelsea ahead on the stroke of halftime but Salah brought the visitors level in the 71st minute, playing a nice one-two with Marco Streller before curling in a confident low shot.
Salah's goal against Chelsea is the first for any Egyptian player in the Champions League group stage since former striker Mido headed home against Real Madrid while playing for Marseille in 2003.
“I hope we can continue playing like that,” the Egyptian international told Al-Jazeera after the match, before turning his thoughts on the Pharaohs' crucial World Cup qualifying playoff against Ghana.
“We are eager to realize the fans' dream of playing at next year's World Cup,” he added.
Salah is Egypt's top scorer in their qualifying campaign with six goals in as many matches.
Egypt, who last played at the World Cup in 1990, face Ghana in Kumasi on 13 October in the first leg of the decider. The return leg takes place in Egypt in November.
