Emad Meteb is in line to make his comeback in Ahly's African Champions League clash at South Africa's Orlando Pirates on Sunday after recovering from a niggling back injury, the Egyptian club said on Tuesday.
The Egypt striker has been out of action for around three months after undergoing surgery to cure a back injury that has blighted him in recent years.
"The back pains are over now after the surgery. I just need to play to regain match fitness," Meteb said in a television interview.
"I don't know what I will do if the injury is aggravated again. But in that case, I may retire from football."
Ahly said he might be included in the team's squad for the Orlando clash in Johannesburg.
In the 30-year-old's absence, Ahly have relied on either Ahmed Abdel-Zaher or El-Sayed Hamdi to play as a lone striker but neither has impressed.
The Red Devils have already ensured their progress to the Champions League semis with one match to spare. The title holders, who top Group A with 10 points, need a draw against Pirates to advance as the group leaders.
