Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) subsidiary Banglalink won a 3G spectrum auction in Bangladesh at a total price of $110.25 million on Sunday, according to a company press release on Monday. According to the Dhaka Tribune, the 3G spectrum auction, the country's largest yet in monetary terms, sold a disappointing total of 25MHz to four operators, leaving 15 MHz unsold. Mobile phone market leader Grameenphone bought 10MHz, while bidders Robi, Airtel and Banglalink bought 5MHz each. The fifteen year license will come into force within 180 days of the auction, once the operators have paid the full price. Banglalink is a wholly-owned subsidiary of OTH, launched in February 2005. As of December 2012, it served almost 27.1 million subscribers and held a 25.7 percent market share in Bangladesh. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/81170.aspx
