Tunisian national team coach, Nabil Maaloul, announced his resignation after Tunisia failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The north African team was defeated by Cape Verde 2-0 in the Stade Olympique de Radès on Saturday night as their hosts snatched the qualification ticket for Group B of the CAF qualifiers. "We were out of it," a dejected Maaloul said. "The players weren't able to respond to the Cape Verde team, which played better than us. This was my final game as national coach." Tunisia formerly led Group B and was the overwhelming favourite to qualify, needing just a draw at home to Cape Verde. However, the islanders scored twice in the first half and the Tunisian team couldn't make a come back, resulting in coach Nabil Maaloul saying he would resign after his team was booed by its own fans for the final 10 minutes of the game. Cape Verde finished on top of the group with 12 points, one more than Tunisia. Sierra Leone ended up in third place with eight points, after beating Equatorial Guinea, who finished last with two points. The 50-year-old Tunisian coach, Maaloul, replaced Sami Trabelsi in February 2013.
