NSF to run in Egypt's parliamentary elections: Front spokesman
Egypt's National Salvation Front will participate in upcoming parliamentary elections
Published in Ahram Online on 03 - 09 - 2013

The National Salvation Front (NSF), an umbrella organisation that includes a number of secular groups, has decided to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, announces the front's spokesman Azazi Ali on Tuesday.
At a press conference at the Wafd Party's headquarters, Ali stressed that the NSF would rather see election laws distict from the constitution, ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates.
The NSF has yet to decide whether it will run in the elections as part of a group or on an individual basis.
The Shura Council, parliament's upper house, was dismantled as part of the interim-government's "roadmap", which has been enforced by the armed forces and agreed upon by many political forces, following mass nationwide protests against deposed president Mohamed Morsi.
The NSF was established in November 2012 in protest over Morsi's constitutional declaration, which gave him unfettered powers.
The NSF, led by former presidential candidates Mohamed ElBaradei, Amr Moussa and Hamdeen Sabahi, served as the main oppositional force until Morsi was toppled.
The Shura Council temporarily held legislative authority following the dissolution of the People's Assembly, the lower house of parliament, when the High Constitutional Court declared the law regulating the 2012 parliamentary elections unconstitutional.
A constitution-amending committee has recommended that the coming parliament be consisted of one house under the name of the 'House of Representatives'.
Egypt's forthcoming parliamentary elections are yet to be scheduled.
