4 Muslim Brotherhood members arrested in Aswan Four members of the Muslim Brotherhood are arrested on charges of assault and torture in Upper Egypt's Aswan
Four members of the Muslim Brotherhood have been arrested in Upper Egypt's Aswan for allegedly taking part in an attack on the city's security directorate on 14 August, assaulting and torturing police officers, reported Egypt's state news agency MENA. The attacks occurred on 14 August during clashes between supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi and security forces, following the violent dispersal of pro-Morsi sit-ins in Cairo and Giza, which left hundreds of casualties. Similar clashes occurred nationwide. Another 7 have been arrested in this case, MENA reported. Over 1000 Muslim Brotherhood members have been arrested during the past week, including prominent Brotherhood leaders and leading Islamist figures associated with the group, which has been charged with 'inciting violence'. The arrests occurred under a state of emergency, which was announced by Egypt's interim presidency the day the sit-ins were dispersed. The Muslim Brotherhood says it is not linked to any of the violent acts carried out after Morsi's deposition by the military on 3 July following mass nationwide protests against him. On 14 August, several police stations, government buildings and churches were attacked – some of them torched – across Egypt. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/79902.aspx
