Published in Ahram Online on 12 - 08 - 2013

A selection of Egyptian films will be screened in Sweden in September within the Malmo Arab Film Festival, which will take place between 2 and 8 September.
This year's Malmo Festival aims to enhance cultural exchange between different groups in Sweden, as well as to facilitate cultural dialogue between the Arab world and the West.
The festival will be a platform for a series of discussions, creating a forum where film producers, directors, actors and the guests of the festival can exchange ideas and expertise. A not-for-profit event, the festival aims to introduce Arab movies to Swedish film festivals.
Run by director Mohammed Keblawi, the festival will screen more than 100 Arabic films from different countries, like Palestine, Qatar, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The festival also features many different directors, actors, film producers as well as other persons active within the Arab film industry.
During the festival, a number of distinguished stars and members of the jury will be honoured for their valuable contributions to the Arabic film industry, television series and theatre. Among them are Egyptian actress Lebleba and Palestinian actor Mohamed Bakri. Moreover, the evaluation committee for documentary and short film includes Azza Elhosseiny, an Egyptian director, actress and leader of the Luxor African Film Festival.
Out of the 12 contesting feature films, three Egyptian films will be screened: El Shetta Elli Fat (Winter of Discontent), Asham(A Man Called Hope) and Baad el Mawkeaa(After The Battle).
And in the feature documentaries category, four films are competing from Egypt: Onny, Jews of Egypt, NO and Eyes of Freedom, Street of Death.
Besides screening films the festival has arranged workshops under the theme Feminism in Arab cinema where 10 female filmmakers from Sweden/Egypt will be hosted to participate in seminars, lectures and networking events.
