Zamalek's Champions League hopes still alive: Coach The Whites new tactician remains optimistic about reaching the continental prestigious tournament semi-final
Zamalek coach Helmi Toulan said he believes that the Whites future at the African Champions League is still secured despite Sunday's 1-0 defeat against Congo's AC Leopards. The Cairo giants defender Mahmoud Fathallah was sent off after picking up a second yellow card for the handball that gifted the Leopards the penalty and sank the Whites early in the first-half in Dolisie. South Africa's Orlando Pirates are currently leading Group A on goal difference from the Leopards, with four points for both clubs, while Ahly and rivals Zamalek have a point each. "The defeat is not the end of the world as the severe competition is still ongoing between the group's four clubs," Toulan was quoted as saying by the club's official website after the match. "Zamalek is able to recover in the coming matches as reaching the semi-final is our main target. " "The results of Group A are beyond expectations as the four teams are at the same level and no one has determined its qualification yet," the coach added. Toulan's debut saw Zamalek play out a dull 1-1 draw with Ahly in their Group A opener last month. Ahly are eyeing a second successive Champions League triumph, while success-starved Zamalek are chasing their first continental title since 2002.
