Ivory Coast's Drogba could return to Chelsea, says Mourinho The coach believes that the beloved striker could return to Chelsea, but does not identify a definite role for him
Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho says that Ivory Coast's striker Didier Drogba could return to the London-based club in the future. The 35-year-old hitman, now with Turkish outfit Galatasaray, scored 157 goals in 341 appearances for the London club after being bought in 2004 by Mourinho from Marseille in Mourinho's first spell in charge at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho, who rejoined Chelsea this summer after an unsuccessful short spell with Real Madrid, believes the Ivory Coast international could prove his worth again with the Blues. "He is a player and he is a winner and he enjoys his game and I almost had a heart attack because of him,” Mourinho told the Telegraph. "Let him enjoy a good couple of years of football but, after that, he is loved in this club by everyone and that's very, very normal. I think one day he will have a Chelsea future," he added. Drogba helped Mourinho win back-to-back Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006 and also scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester United at Wembley in 2007. The 50-year-old tactician didn't specify the role that he predicts for the Ivorian star, refusing to say if he will return as a player or a coach. "It's more a global question than a specific question to the manager," he said. "I am nobody, I am just the manager. Is he a very important player in Chelsea's history? Yes. Will Didier be always in the memory of Chelsea fans, Chelsea board, Chelsea owner, Chelsea fellow players, Chelsea kids growing up? Yes. “Is it normal that Didier will be in the future connected with Chelsea again, I think yes. How? I don't know," he concluded.
