Heads of Egypt Nat'l Archives, Supreme Culture Council to be reinstated New culture minister Saber Arab reverses more firings under former minister Abdel-Aziz; legal complications stalling some reinstatements
Abdel-Wahed El-Nabawe and Said Tawfik have been reinstated to their posts as head of Egypt's National Archives and head of the Supreme Council of Culture, respectively, according to culture minister Saber Arab. The minister told Ahram Online on Sunday that the decision was made to correct the illegal firing of the two cultural officials by former culture minister Alaa Abdel-Aziz. The "corrective decisions" will also include the reinstatements of Ahmed Megahed, former head of Egypt's book organization, and Abdel-Nasser Hassan, former central administrative head of Egypt's National Library and Archives. Although legal complications have stalled the immediate reinstatement of Megahed and Hassan, the minister says he is working through these issues. Current National Library and Archives head Khaled Fahmy, as well as Gamal Tellawy, head of the General Egyptian Organisation, will be forced the leave the posts they assumed during Abdel-Aziz's tenure in office. Former culture minister Abdel-Aziz, who was appointed in May, went on a sacking campaign that drove most senior culture ministry officials from their posts. Abdel-Aziz's firings included Ines Abdel-Dayem, head of the Cairo Opera House; Ahmed Megahed, head of the Egyptian Book Organisation; Salah El-Meligy, head of the fine arts sector; and the head of the Egyptian National Archives, Abdel-Wahed El-Nabawe, along with all National Archives senior officials. Abdel-Aziz also drove Said Tawfik to resign from his post. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/76973.aspx
