Egypt's Salah scores for Basel in Swiss League opener 21-year old forward continues to flourish in Switzerland after carrying Basel to victory in Swiss League last season, says he will not leave club to pursue new challenges
Egypt striker Mohamed Salah continued his impressive streak for the second consecutive season after scoring in Basel's Sunday 2-0 win over Aarau in the Swiss League opener. The forward, who also plays for Egypt's Pharaohs, was included in the starting lineup, scoring Basel's first goal in the 25th minute. The 21-year old, who joined Basel last season from Egypt's Arab Contractors, was heavily praised for his performance after scoring five goals for the Swiss side and lifting the team to win the Swiss League title last season. Salah's impressive form last season in Switzerland has fuelled speculation that he could leave Basel for another challenge. However, he said he will not leave the club during the current transfer window. Salah has become a key member of Egypt's squad under American coach Bob Bradley, and he has scored eight goals in his 40 competition appearances since joining Basel. Fellow Egyptian international midfielder Mohamed El-Neny, who signed a permanent contract with Basel this summer after his loan deal with the club finished at the end of last season, was included in the starting lineup during the 3-1 win over Aarau in the Swiss League on Saturday.
