Egyptian musicians' syndicate director Mostafa Kamel announces he is stepping down from his position "in support of the protesters on the streets," who are seeking to unseat Brotherhood-fielded President Mohamed Morsi. In his resignation to syndicate council members, Kamel declared his full support and solidarity with the demands of the people who on Sunday came out in the millions upon millions – even larger than during the 2011 revolution that ousted Hosni Mubarak after 30 years in power. Widely associated with Egypt's shaabi (popular) music, Kamel is a singer and a songwriter who won the seat of the head of the musicians syndicate on 17 May. The syndicate council will run the syndicate in Kamel's place during the coming days, according the syndicate's Media Advisor Tarek Mortada. Kamel voiced his concern over the presidency's strategy in dealing with the people's demands and urged all Egyptian artists to join the protests.
