Zamalek coach frustrated by lack of clear league schedule Coach Vieira praises his team for the 2-1 win over Ismaily and in the same breath asks the Egyptian FA to set the schedule
Zamalek Portuguese coach Jorvan Vieira considers the 2-1 win over Ismaily on the 17th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League a good preparation for the league's final phase. The Cairo giants lead Group B of the Egyptian Premier League with 39 points, nine over runners-up Ismaily. "I decided to rest the international crew after they played in the World Cup qualifiers," Vieira was quoted as saying on the club's official website. Zamalek's game against Ismaily was largely meaningless, given that both sides had already secured their place in the final four-team phase of the league's new format. "The squad suffers more injuries, like Hazem Emam, Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed and Omar Jaber, so we played with the available players. "Zamalek were lacklustre during the first half, but in the second half they set up the team again," he added. "We suffer from the league's unclear schedule and ask I ask the Egyptian Football Association to set definite dates for the remaining games," the tactician concluded. Group B leaders Zamalek and runners-up Ismaily will compete with Ahly and ENPPI in a mini-league phase with only home fixtures to determine the league champion. The last round should start at the end of the month, but is likely to be postponed by the EFA, given planned protests against Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi's rule on 30 June. Zamalek supporters defied a crowd ban during Sunday's 2-1 Egyptian Premier League win over Ismaily following the footsteps of Ahly's die-hard supporters (Ultras Ahlawy) who stormed the Air Defence Stadium in Cairo in their side's 4-1 Egyptian Premier League win over Gouna on Saturday. Crowds have been barred from attending domestic football games since February 2012, when post-match violence between Ahly and Masry fans left more than 70 dead. The EFA will convene in the next few days to decide what action it would take in the wake of the mass stadium invasions.
