VIDEO: Ahly manager wants fans back ahead of Egypt mini league Watch Ahly fans chant in stands during their 4-1 win over Gouna despite crowd ban, Zamalek fans may follow them during Sunday's Ismaily game, EFA to decide penalties
Ahly manager Mohamed Youssef has commented on the breach of the crowd ban before their 4-1 league win over Gouna on Saturday. "I was sure the game would be held. We are familiar with these kinds of complications since the Super Cup game against ENPPI at the beginning of the season," Youssef told Ahly's website after the game. The match was threatened with cancellation after dozens of Ahly fans, Ultras Ahlawy 07, entered the stadium, chanted and set off fireworks for around 10 minutes then departed. "I only love Ahly and nothing else makes me happy," chanted Ahly fans. Fans have been banned from attending domestic matches since February 2011 when more than 70 Ahly fans died during clashes with Masry fans in the Port Said stadium. "I hope fans return to the stands in the mini league,"Youssef added. Ahly, Zamalek, Ismaily and either ENPPI or Smouha will compete to determine the winner of the tournament dubbed the Martyrs' League. "Winning qualification to the mini league is a relief and we are keen to clinch the title," Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz said. Abdel-Hafiz and Youssef also expressed joy at the return of Hossam Ghaly and Ahmed Seddik after months of being sidelined due to injury. "The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) board will convene on Sunday to decide what action will be taken in the matter," EFA vice chairman Hassan Farid said in a television interview. Ultras White Knights, the hardcore supporters of Cairo's Zamalek, endorsed the stance of their bitter foes, saying they had given the EFA two days to lift the crowd ban. They have not specified what action they might take if their demand is not accepted. Zamalek are due to face Ismaily on Sunday.
