Egypt's 6 April says it collected more than 1 million anti-Morsi signatures Youth movement says signatures aren't enough, calls on public to hit streets on 30 June
Egypt's 6 April Youth Movement on Thursday announced that it had collected more than 1,068,350 signatures against President Mohamed Morsi and launched a new campaign to motivate the public to demonstrate on 30 June, Al-Ahram's Arabic-language website reported on Thursday. 6 April founder Ahmed Maher made the announcement at a press conference held with other opposition leaders. The anti-Morsi 'Rebel' campaign aims to gather 15 million citizens' signatures in support of snap presidential elections. "The current regime has failed to fulfil Egyptians' dreams after the [2011] January revolution," Maher stated. According to Maher, the current government has confirmed that it is an "exclusionary" regime that aims to dominate and control the state. At the conference, Amr Aly, member of 6 April's political wing, also announced the launch of a campaign to urge those who signed the 'Rebel' petition to demonstrate on 30 June outside the Presidential Palace and in public squares throughout the country. The new campaign has adopted the motto "Your signature isn't enough." The campaign stresses the importance of peaceful protests on 30 June, and the rejection of political violence. The 'Rebel' campaign's latest signature count was more than seven million signatures, according to organisers.
