Egypt's Rabia coy over reports linking him with Man United, Chelsea The promising Egyptian defender says his primary objective is to recover from injury in time to take part in next month's U-20 World Cup in Turkey
Egypt's highly-rated defender Rami Rabia has played down reports linking him with English Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United, saying he is focused on recovering from an injury in time to make the Pharaohs' squad for the U-20 World Cup. Sky Sports said on Friday that Premier League champions United and Europa League winners Chelsea are among a host of clubs chasing the 20-year-old. Rabia, who played a key role in helping Egypt win the U-20 African Championship in March, is facing a race against time to feature in next month's World Cup in Turkey after picking up a knee injury in an Egyptian Premier League game last month. "I'm talking with some people over some offers, but everything will be opened after the World Cup. Just pray for me to be able to play in the World Cup," Rabia told his followers on Twitter. The versatile defender, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, burst onto the scene with some fine displays with his club Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League. Skysports also said that German duo Borussia Dortmund and Schalke and French side Lille are keeping tabs on him. Egypt will play in Group E of the U-20 World Cup along with Iraq, England and Chile. The World Cup will take place from 21 June to 13 July.
