Ahly coach hails Smouha test, laments Rabiaa absence Knee injury sidelines Red Devils defender Rami Rabiea for 4 weeks, skipping Sunday's match against Tunisia's CA Bizertin, but is to return in June for U-20 World Cup in Turkey
Ahly Hossam El-Badry considers Tuesday's 2-0 win over Smouha a good preparation for Tunisia's CA Bizertin clash in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Sunday. Two goals by strikers Ahmed Abdel-Zaher and Emad Meteb guided the Red Devils to revenge from their 1-0 loss to Smouha in February and also to overtake ENPPI on top of Egyptian league with 24 points. "I am very happy with result that kept us at the top of our Group. The match was a good preparation for us ahead of next week's tie with CA Bizertin," El-Badry said after the match. "Our strikers were lucky as they had a lot of chances to score on the contrary of the first round clash against Smouha," he added. Rabiea out of CA Bizertin clash Ahly will host Tunisia's CA Bizertin in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 at Cairo's Military Stadium. The titleholders of both the domestic and continental championships will be in a must-win situation to ensure their place in the continental tournament next round. The Cairo giants will be without promising defender Rami Rabiaa who suffered a serious knee injury during Smouha clash. "Scans revealed that Rabiea suffers knee cartilage damage. He will be out of action for four weeks at least," Ahly doctor Ihab Aly told the club's official website. "He will undergo a Laparoscopic surgery on Thursday, but he will be available for Egypt U-20 campaign at the coming World Cup in Turkey this June," he added. El-Badry was disappointed for losing Rabiaa, but he insisted that Ahly have other ready alternatives.
