Art Alert: Hal Badeel culture festival closes this Wednesday
Hal Badeel (Alternative Solution)Festival which took over Townhouse Gallery's factory space will end its events this Wednesday with several performances
Published in Ahram Online on 14 - 04 - 2013

Hal Badeel(Alternative Solution), the festival that took over Townhouse Gallery's exhibition space 'The Factory' and turned it into a small theater, ends its performances this Wednesday 17 April.
The evening will start outside The Factory with street theater performers Outa Hamra who transform public spaces as they present their clown act called 'Transformers.'
The festival, will close with a small speech looking back at the festival's programme of the last three weeks. Karima Mansour's Contemporary Dance Center at the Opera House will then give a performance, followed by accordionist Youssra El-Hawary.
The festival, which started on 24 March, has provided a unique space for filmmakers, dancers, musicians and theater folk to present independent work. The audiences were invited in for free, or could watch the performances on the street on television screens. Everything else was donated, including the organisers' and artists' time, to the space and materials used.
The organisers of the festival, Mido Sadek and Saber Said, were using this "Zero Budget" model to show there is "an alternative solution" to the problems artists face when cultural spaces close.
The duo and their volunteer crew plan to take this experiment further by recycling other spaces such as garages and building lobbies.
