Senior official: Mubarak clique fortunes worth LE250bn As the full extent of the rampant corruption perpetrated by the Mubarak regime comes to light, those at the centre find themselves under investigation
A senior government official has revealed to Ahram Online that the estimated total worth of 39 former ministers and NDP party leaders is LE250bn. The official added that these former dignitaries are currently under investigation for illegal profiteering and money laundering. Moreover, the official stated that the full extent of these fortunes is predicted to amount to half a trillion Egyptian pounds. The general prosecutor, Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, has ordered the assets be frozen. The official added that the figures being quoted in the media might be inaccurate, especially those relating to the Mubarak family, Zakareia Azmy, Habib El-Adly, Ahmed Ezz, Mohamed Aboul Enein, Ahmed El-Maghraby and others due to them owning stock shares and money in international banks. The source added that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces is working in collaboration with governments,banks and international organizations to recoup those resources for the benefit of Egypt and stated that no one will be allowed to escape.
