Ghana's Gyan confident ahead of Cape Verde clash Ghana striker says the team's confidence is growing before they face Cape Verde in the Nations Cup quarter-final on Saturday
Ghana are brimming with confidence following their 3-0 win over Niger which lifted them to the African Cup of Nations quarter-finals, skipper Asamoah Gyan said on Tuesday. Despite making a slow start to the tournament after being held to a 2-2 draw by DR Congo in their opening game, the Black Stars made a rapid recovery to register two straight wins over Mali and Niger. Ghana, who finished on top of Group B and are chasing their fifth continental title, will face Cape Verde, who are enjoying a fairytale campaign in their maiden Nations Cup appearance, in the quarter-final on Saturday. "All the players are happy and their confidence level is growing and I believe we'll go into the next game with a strong conviction," Gyan was quoted as saying by Ghana soccernet on Tuesday. "We came here with the mentality of doing well in this Nations Cup. I think the players have agreed. "Anytime we come on the field, we don't think about the next opponent. We think about the opponent that we're playing with. "Today was a great day for us and we're thinking about the next game and make sure we do better for the nation," he added.
