Egyptian journalists from El-Badil, Al-Tahrir, Al-Youm El-Sabe' and El-Wady newspapers accuse security guards at Giza Zoo of assaulting them and preventing them from reporting on fire that broke out on Sunday Eight journalists have filed police reports against security guards at Giza Zoo for allegedly assaulting them while they were covering Sunday's fire. Reporters from El-Badil, Al-Tahrir, Al-Youm El-Sabe' and El-Wady newspapers claim they were hit by security guards and prevented from entering the zoo to cover the blaze. They also claim the guards threatened to break their cameras. On Sunday afternoon, a fire started in a forested area at the zoo and spread to the animal food warehouse, causing minor damage. The fire was reportedly caused by a cigarette discarded by a visitor. Six fire engines arrived to extinguish the fire. Giza Zoo was conceived by Khedive Ismail and launched in 1891.
