The April 6 Youth Movement released a statement on Wednesday in response to calls by the Muslim Brotherhood for a march on the presidential palace where dozens of protesters are staging a sit-in, holding President Mohamed Morsi responsible for any potential violence. "The president has a political responsibility for how things have escalated, especially after the Muslim Brotherhood [the organisation from which Morsi hails] called for demonstrations at 4pm in front of the presidential palace at such a critical time," April 6 founding member Mohamed Adel stated. Adel went on to condemn Morsi's efforts to establish dialogue with other political forces, saying this was only meant for media consumption and was not a real attempt to reach national consensus or meet the demands of the millions who continue to protest against the constitutional declaration. "The Muslim Brotherhood needs to be aware that it is now in a position where it is politically and legally accountable for the ongoing political clashes in the country, which may lead to social violence as it is not seeking to create dialogue to solve the current crisis," he added. Observers fear potential clashes between pro-Morsi demonstrators and anti-Morsi activists at the presidential palace, where the Brotherhood has called on members to demonstrate while dozens of opposition activists are still holding a sit-in. On Tuesday, hundreds of thousands took the streets surrounding the presidential palace to protest Morsi's constitutional declaration and an upcoming referendum on the controversial draft constitution.
