Olympiakos' Algerian midfielder Djamel Abdoun said on Wednesday he aims to play for his national team despite being snubbed by coach Vahid Halilhozdic.
The 26-year-old produced some impressive displays with Olympiakos in the Greek league and the UEFA champions League, where the club are fighting to reach the knockout phase.
He was named for two successive seasons as the Greek league's best passer and is leading the list this term with seven assists in ten matches.
Despite his impressive performances, Abdoun has so far failed to earn a call-up to Algeria ascoach Vahid Halilhzodic consistently leaves him out of the team's squad.
"I didn't swallow the decision of Halilhzodic to ignore me, but now I'm concentrating with my club," Abdoun told French magazine France football.
"As a player, I should respect the coach's decision even if I'm not convinced with it. I didn't have an answer for why I didn't play for Algeria. If I have an answer I will say it.
"Anyway, playing for Algeria is my goal and I will do my best to realize it," he added.
