Shola Ameobi's brother prefers to play for England rather than Nigeria English born-forward Sammy Ameobi says that he would prefer to represent England, unlike his brother Shola who decided to play for Nigeria
Newcastle youngster Sammy Ameobi said on Sunday that he prefers to play for England's national team, ruling out the possibility of following in the footsteps of his brother Shola who decided to play for Nigeria. Shola Ameobi , 31, who also plays for Newcastle United, has received his first Nigeria call-up last week as the Super Eagles will face Venezuela in a friendly game on Wednesday. On the other hand, England under 21 coach Stuart Pearce has called up Sammy for his team and the latter said he is hoping to outshine his brother. "Shola's decided to play for Nigeria but England would be my first choice. I was born and brought up here and have only really played English football," The 20-year-old told the Sun on Sunday. "It is a competition between us and I'd like to surpass him in whatever way I can. I can do that by getting into the England team," he added.
