Ultras Ahlawy vow to protect Sunshine Stars players ahead of match Opposing a protest led by Egyptian footballers in front of the hotel where Nigeria's Sunshine Stars are staying, Ahly's die-hard supporters vow to protect both teams
Ahly's hardcore football fans (Ultras Ahlawy) have vowed to protect Nigeria's Sunshine Stars, few hours before they meet Cairo giants Ahly in the second leg of the African Champions League semi-final. Hundreds of protesters, including many Egyptian Premier League footballers, have held a protest in front of the hotel where Sunshine Stars are staying to demand football resumption after a lengthy stoppage in the wake of February's Port Said disaster. Fearing that the protesters might try to prevent Sunshine Stars from playing the game, Ultras Ahlawy called on its members to go to the hotel and protect the visiting team. “The Premier League and second-division players are laying siege to the hotel and are insulting Ahly. This could see Ahly disqualified from the Champions League, so every member must go there now,” Ultras Ahlawy, Egypt's most influential fan group, said on their Facebook page. The match is due to kick-off at 17:30 GMT (19:30 Cairo local time). African governing body CAF is yet to make any comments. Ahly are favourites to reach the elite competition's final after holding Sunshine Stars to a 3-3 draw in the first leg in Nigeria.
