New Release: The Letters of Abdel Hakim Kassim On the birtday of Abdel-Hakim Kassim, Mohamed Shoair has compiled the letters he wrote throughout his life and recorded them in this new title, released today from Merit publishing house
Ketabat Nawbat Al-Herasa: Rasa'l Abdel-Hakim Kassim (Writings During a Guard Shift :- The Letters of Abdel-Hakim Kassim) prepared and edited by Mohamed Shoair, Cairo: Dar Merit, 2010. On the birthday of Abdel-Hakim Kassim, Mohamed Shoair has compiled the letters he wrote throughout his life and recorded them in this new title released today from Merit publishing house. Compiling a late author's papers is rather unusual in the Arabic literary world, although they represent a rather revealing side of both history and art from a b perspective. The book, as described by the publisher, is not a biography of Kassim per se, but a record of the history of his generation which thrived during the 1960s. While recording the difficulties Kassim encountered during the eras of Abdel-Nasser and later Sadat until finally the events of the first Gulf War, the book recalls the many challenges that faced literary work so deeply impacted by public affairs.
