We are all to blame for Zamalek's failure: skipper El-Sayed Veteran keeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed says everyone at the club is culpable for the team's dramatic string of losses in the African Champions League
Zamalek goalkeeper and skipper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed believes that everyone at the club is responsible for the team's recent failure in the CAF Champions League. "The management, technical staff and also the players are all responsible for the elimination from the CAF Champions League," El-Sayed was quoted as saying by the Whites' official website on Tuesday. "All of us must reconsider what happened to find quick and convincing solutions," said the experienced 35-year-old keeper. Under the guidance of new Brazilian tactician Jorvan Vieira, Zamalek's desire to reach the prestigious continental tournament's semi-final was shattered after Sunday's 2-1 loss to DR Congo's Mazembe in the fourth match day of the group stage. The-59-year-old manager, who succeeds Hassan Shehata, has apologised to Zamalek fans, blaming the defence's many mistakes for the defeat. The loss was the fourth successive one for the Cairo giants in the group stage as they remained at the bottom of Group B with no points, ten adrift of leaders Ahly and seven behind second-placed Mazembe. They squandered their last chance to reach the semi-final of Africa's premier club competition for the first time since 2005.
