Egyptian President Morsi to discuss loan with IMF chief International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde to discuss loan deal with President Morsi and government ministers in Cairo on Wednesday
President Mohamed Morsi is expected to meet with IMF chief Christine Lagarde at the presidential palace on Wednesday. It will be the president's first meeting after the Eid vacation which he spent in Alexandria, presidential spokesperson Yasser Ali said. The IMF chief will also meet with government ministers during her visit. Meetings with Lagarde will tackle the possibility of a bigger-than-expected $4.8 billion loan from the Washington-based body, Reuters reported last week. Activists have called for a protest to take place on the same day as Lagarde's visit to reject loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank. Since the ouster of former president Hosni Mubarak, activists have been campaigning under the banner"Drop Egypt's Debts" and raising awareness about the likely consequences of IMF loans.
