New Zamalek coach Vieira 'fully responsible' for Mazembe match Zamalek's newly-appointed manager Jorvan Vieira vows to take 'full responsibility' for outcome of Sunday's Mazembe clash, despite team's difficult circumstances
Coach Jorvan Vieira has described his mission at Zamalek as "a tough one," but insisted he would be "fully responsible for the upcoming Mazembe match" despite the difficult circumstances the team find themselves in. The Brazil-born coach succeeds Hassan Shehata with the Whites at the bottom of Group B with no points after three rounds. They are scheduled to take on DR Congo's Mazembe on Sunday. "Working with Zamalek will be a very difficult mission given the team's current form and their position within the CAF Champions League," Vieira was quoted as saying by the CAF's official website on Tuesday. "I take this as a personal challenge." The former Iraq coach also commented on the effects of the ongoing suspension of all Egyptian domestic football activity since February's Port Said stadium disaster. "I've worked under more difficult conditions in Iraq; I can handle whatever circumstances are thrown at me," Vieira said. "It will be difficult to begin my mission given the current state of affairs, as I don't know whether domestic football activity will resume or not, but I have to accept the situation and make my plans accordingly." When asked about the absence of certain key players from the upcoming Mazembe match – including Ahmed Hassan (suspended), Amr Zaki (transferred) and Mahmoud Abdel Razek (loaned out) – the new Zamalek coach said: “A team isn't made up of only one or two players. I never depend on a single player, regardless of their skills and quality." "I admit the importance of having some key players, but my experience has taught me to only concentrate on those available for the game and not to think of the absentees," Vieira added. "We have many talented players, but what'simportant now is restoring the team's fighting spirit for upcoming matches." He went on: "I'm fully responsible for the outcome of Sunday's Mazembe match. I'll work with my assistants to draw up an appropriate plan for the good of the team." Ahly, meanwhile, Zamalek's archrivals, are currently at the top of the Group B table with nine points. The team will be hosted by Ghana's Berekum Chelsea at Accra Stadiumin the same round.
