Tamer Salah, one of Egypt's bronze medallists in the 2004 Athens Games, is eager to make up for his surprising failure to compete in Beijing four years later. The 30-year-old was acclaimed for clinching the bronze medal eight years ago following a remarkable campaign that saw him eventually overcome Spain's Juan Antonio Ramos in the 58 kg (flyweight) category. His only defeat came in the quarter-finals against Chinese Taipei's Chu Mu-Yen, who went on to claim the gold medal. However, his form somewhat faded afterwards, culminating in the disappointment of not being able to reach the Beijing Games as he could only finish third in the African qualifiers. Salah still managed to savour finishing third at the 2007 World Championship in Beijing but the dream of another Olympic medal is still filling his thoughts as he wraps up his preparations for the London Games. “I'm determined to win a medal in London. I'm even more motivated to do so following the January (2011) revolution,” Salah was quoted as saying by local media. “I'm ready for London, I have claimed many titles recently. I'm also doing my best in training to go to London in the best possible physical shape.” (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at@AO Sportsand on Facebook at AhramOnlineSports)
