What's hot in summer fashion?
From nail polish, swimwear, nightwear to accessories; Ahram Online's Style section lays it all out for what's hot in summer fashion
Published in Ahram Online on 09 - 07 - 2012

It's summer, with all its warmth banging on your door inviting you to come out and play. June is the official signal for the summer season, characterised by long days full of light and the fashion world encourages you to stand out in ecstatic, unabashedly bright colours. The trends of the 2012 summer season of 2012, and the sense of style the trends conveys, might as well be a siren.
The borders of taste keep expanding as the globe gets smaller; therefore, the urge to present new trends this season came in the form of reviving old trends with a fresh, contemporary, twist.
Back to basics: “style is as likely to rise from the ground as to fall from heavens,” said Michael Specter, renowned fashion writer. This season trends are full of life and femininity with delicate fabrics. Think: Disney fairy tale with long soft pleated skirts, Victorian gold accessories disguised in a hippy mood, or the neon light print, bright colours, like mint green and pink candy reflecting youth and freedom.
This season most wanted trends are slightly schizophrenic: one for ladies with a sense of classic, muted, simple nature. The second is suitable for courageous women who make bold statements.
Whichever pole you lean towards, this season trend fulfills your anticipation. Here is the list of ideal bits and pieces to embrace in June, starting with the wilder, bolder looks:
##L# Colored Clutchesfor this season are casual and carefree. Usually bright colours attract attention; therefore, ladies who want to stand out and don't mind a bit of attention would rock those neon color clutches for a trendy and fresh look.
##R#Swimwearfor June 2012 by Prada: they are making their mark on swimwear this season with their signature vintage cuts and vivid colours. One look at that neon print one-piece swimming suit conjures Elizabeth Taylor to mind. The Prada swimwear for 2012 are definitely a hit. The brilliance of the Prada vintage designs are that his intense colour palate is not disturbing to the eye since he used colours that exist in nature.
Hats off to Prada: their accessories, including the sandals, jewellery or swimwear - as you can see – are the most surprising and out of the box this season.
##L# Nail Polish, girls; favourite nail decoration reflects moods and gives different impressions from light classic colours to black, gothic strong colours. This summer season for June 2012 nail polish is all about neon, bright, electric colours that send an energetic vibe. Cases in point: nail candy that makes anyone feel like a valley girl.
##L# If you didn't buy anything new for your eyes except Makeup Forever's Aqua Eyes this summer you'd be well off. WHY?It's waterproof. We know what that means: you won't look like azombieafter couple of hours in the hot sun melting the makeup and drooping your face along with it! It stands out more than an eye shadow or eyeliner and gives the eyelid some sort of dimension. The colours are deep, offering you a strong gaze.
##L# Prada 2012 Sandal, after all it's always nice to think a little outside of the box, isn't it?The Hot Rod Flaming Shoes is like a flashback from the 50'a racecars. Although the Prada summer sandals collection has “flaming” shoes ina varietyof colours, of course, the highlight are flaming fire tones: yellow and red. Once again, Prada thought out of the box.
##R# Accessories for this season:Chunky rings, woven rings, chain bracelet in matte gold completes women's outfits.
Chunky and woven rings take us back to the Victorian era of the British history of queens and princesses, reviving antique-looking accessories with contemporary lines and ideas behind them. Chain bracelets in matte gold, transform a classic chain into a funky and fun bracelet for this season. Gold had been out for years, but it's made a strong comeback this season in all the runway shows of D&G and Gucci. Safety in gold, both as a base which never loses value, and the wealth and security it psychologically offers reveals much about the desire to move on from financial dreariness. This season, however, the gold is matted to reduce its bright shine.
For this season's classic style:
##R# Nightwear, the runway shows of Gucci 2013 Resort dictated an IT nightwear for June's hot weather. “Dark Floral Print” embraced the budding floral trend of the season by making them adaptable for a night out with solid colours in yellow and green.
##R# Asymmetric, fine-pleated skirt, both long and short. The pleated skirts existed in chiffon since the 30's. The benefit is that pleats allow the soft skirt to expand in shape when moving, giving dimension and air. Just like a fairytale, the pleated skirt makes a woman look like a princess. Pleats are not only romantic, they are trendy, and, lest we not forget, comfortable in hot humid weather.
##L# Wooden heels:that's the way it was in the old days until they disappeared after World War II, where they were substituted with synthetic materials.Wooden heels connect with nature. Lanvin and Michael Kohrs are both introducing wood in their heels and sandals.
