Beheira villagers block, re-open agricultural road over water cuts

Residents of Nile Delta township cut Cairo-Alexandria agricultural highway to protest water cuts, reopen road following promises to increase supply, improve infrastructure

Dozens of residents of the Qasr Bolad township in the Nile Delta Beheiragovernorate blocked the nearby Cairo-Alexandria agricultural highway to protest a three-day water supply stoppage in their area.
Protesters blocked the highway with flaming tyres, temporarily halting the flow of traffic.
The township of Qasr Bolad, home to approximately four thousand villagers, has recently suffered intermittent water cuts due to inadequate infrastructure. Local residents have resorted to drawing water by bucket from neighbouring villages.
Beheira's main police station was informed of the incident and has reportedly called on local water company officials to look into the situation at Qasr Bolad.
After blocking the highway for about one hour, protesters eventually removed the roadblocks after water company officials promised to increase the water supply in the area and improve existing water infrastructure.
