Senegalese officials accuse CAF of bias The Senegalese Football Federation (SFF) has alleged that recent controversial refereeing decisions against their national team are the result of systematic bias by officials
The Senegalese Football Federation (SFF) has accused the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Issa Hayatou of mistreatment. "We refused to vote for a motion of support for a new candidacy of the outgoing president of the CAF at the last convention." "We are democrats, and this refusal may be the cause of every bad refereeing decision against us," Louis Lamotte, vice-president of the SFF was quoted as saying to Senegalese radio Sud FM. The accusations came out just two days after Senegal suffered a shocking draw against Uganda in Kampala, in the second round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. The Cranes were offered a controversial penalty just before the final whistle, allowing them to grab a precious 1-1 home draw. "It's not just a question of the penalty; even during the game there were problems," Lamotte stated, adding that his team was destabilised by questions about the players' identity verification. "If it is necessary, we will ask for non-African referees," the SFF vice-president concluded. The Teranga Lions are still looking for a Senegalese head coach now that Joseph Koto's interim period has come to an end. Senegal will face Angola in March 2013 for Group J in the third round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Senegal are hoping for a second World Cup run, after making a huge impact in their debut in 2002, reaching the quarter-finals.
