National Archives to acquire Mubarak trial documents after case closes The National Archives will receive the full dossier of documents in the Mubarak trial once a final verdict is confirmed, says head
The director of Egypt's National Archives, Abdel-Wahed El-Nabawe, has said that the institution will acquire the documents of the Mubarak trial after the various levels of litigation end and the final verdict is declared. Toppled former president Hosni Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison Saturday for his role in the killing of protesters during the 18-day uprising. El-Nabawe told Ahram Online that acquiring the papers and documents is a right of the National Archives, granted by laws regulating the exhcange of documents in Egypt. The Archives have the right to acquire and add to its collection any documents it sees as necessary to its collection, or that has historical importance and could be useful for historians in the future. El-Nabawe added that the committee that is documenting the Egyptian revolution with the National Archives did not have any evidence that could help in the Mubarak case. The Mubarak trial judge acquitted six Ministry of Interior leaders, also charged in connection with the killing of protesters, for lack of evidence. El-Nabawe said that the committee has no videos or pictures of killings other than the ones broadcast on television during the revolution and that no investigatory body asked the National Archives for evidence. “We would present any evidence if we had it, but all the material we have was already broadcast,” said El-Nabawe. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/44076.aspx
