UK: Assad regime should stop operations immediately or face international action UK warned the Syrian regime it will face strong international action unless it stops its military operations against civilian immediately.
UK Foreign Office expressed its protest to Alhoula massacre when it summoned the Syrian Chargé d'Affaires on Monday. Sir Geoffrey Adams, Foreign Office political Director, made clear to the Syrian diplomat the UK's condemnation of the appalling massacre Reports confirmed 108 people, including 49 children and 34 women have been killed in the massacre on 25 May. Sir Geoffrey described this as a sickening and evil crime. William Hague, UK foreign secretary, has said his government is making urgent consultations with its international partners to take action in response to the massacre which the Syrian regime denies any responsibility for it. In a statement after meeting with the Syrian Chargé d'Affaires , Sir Geoffrey said " an urgent international investigation should be carried out into the massacre and those responsible for acts of violence should be identified and held accountable'. He added unless the Syrian regime ceased all military operations immediately and implemented Kofi Annan's six point peace plan in full, the international community would take further quick and robust action in response.UK believes Syrian authorities are responsible for the violence in Syria. "The responsibility to end the violence lay squarely with (Syrianpresident Bashaar) Assad and those around him' Sir Geoffrey said in his statement. London has been calling Assad to step down to clear the way to reform the country. "The spiralling conflict and worsening sectarian violence was a product of the regime's brutal response to dissent", the statement stated.
