Sunday night an event at the Supreme Council for Culture will be dedicated to Amal Donqol, who penned the famous poem celebrating the 1977 uprising against former Egyptian president Sadat Egypt's Supreme Council for Culture (SCC) will host an evening on Sunday, 20 May in remembrance of Egypt's renowned poet, Amal Donqol. The event will feature writers and critics, Adel Awad, Mohammed El-Abd, Mahmoud Addab' and Haitham Haj Ali. Amal Donqol, Egyptian poet was born in 1940 to a poor, religious family. His father was an Al-Azhar Imam who named his child Amal (hope) because he earned his license from Al-Azhar the same year Amal was born. Amal is best known for his poem Al-Ka'ka Al-Hagarya (The Cake of Rock), which he wrote in praise of the 1977 uprising in Egypt against former president Sadat. He has six published poetry collections, including Crying Between a Bird's Hands, The Coming Era and Papers of Room No.8. He died of cancer on 21 May, 1983.
