Coach Manuel Jose Da Silva set to quit Egypt's Ahly Portuguese tactician plans to quit team following end of third spell with Egyptian Champions, says well-informed source
Ahly coach Manuel Jose Da Silva won't extend his stay with the team after his current contract expires at the end of June. The Portuguese tactician on Friday met with the club's board, informing board members that he intended to leave after spending 18 months with the Red Devils, a well-informed source told Ahram Sports. The 66-year-old is reportedly unsatisfied with the situation in Egypt, especially given the uncertain future of Egyptian football following February's Port Said Stadium disaster in which scores were killed and which led to the indefinite suspension of all domestic football activity. An official statement has yet to be released, but the board is expected to try to persuade Da Silva to stay with Ahly and continue his efforts to rejuvenate the team with a view towards clinching the CAF Champions League title. Da Silva is considered the most successful coach in the history of Egyptian football, winning a total of 20 titles including four CAF Champions League trophies. He was hired back in January 2011 for a third spell at Ahly's helm, successfully overturning a six-point deficit to beat rivals Zamalek for the league title.
