Egyptian fencer Mohamed Amer defeated Rio 2016 silver medalist and Pan American champion Daryl Homer 15-11 in Round of 32 of the Sabre event on Saturday. 23-year old Amer, who finished 31st in Brazil five years ago, came back from an 8-3 disadvantage at the end of the first period to claim a precious 15-11 win at the end of the contest. Amer will face Sanguk Oh of Korea at 07:35 Cairo time (GMT+2) on Saturday in Round of 16. Ziad El Sissy also progressed to the Round of 16 after beating Veniamin Reshetnikov of Russia 15-13. He will face Sandro Bazadze who defeated Mohab Shawki in Round of !6.
