Aboul-Fotouh, Shafiq campaigns swap accusations The presidential campaign of the Abdel Moneim Aboul-Fotouh said some of its members were assaulted by campaigners of candidate Ahmed Shafiq. The latter claims otherwise
The presidential campaign of the Abdel Moneim Aboul-Fotouh said some of its members were assaulted by campaigners of candidate Ahmed ShafiqTuesday. The latter refuted the allegations. In a press release, Aboul-Fotouh's campaign said, “The supporters of candidate Ahmed Shafiq in the Dakahlia Governorate beat some of the volunteers of Aboul-Fotouh's campaign, tore some of their banners and also threatened to kill them if they kept promoting [Aboul-Fotouh].” On the other hand, Mohamed Kotri, the general coordinator of Shafiq's presidential campaign, categorically denied the accusations, accusing Aboul-Fotouh's campaign of the very same charges. “Actually, it's them who tear the posters of Ahmed Shafiq or cover them with Aboul-Fotouh's placards,” he said. Polling of the presidential elections' first round in Egypt is set to get underway 23 May. Contenders must stop their electoral campaigns 48 hours ahead of the poll.
